John Moore and his wife arrived im Massachussetts Bay Colony on the Mary and John in 1630, and relocated to Windsor in 1638. He and his wife had six children.

Importing goods from England was expensive and required English currency, which was scarce in Connecticut in the 1600s. Quality furniture made in Connecticut was, therefore, in high demand. John Moore was a woodworker and a remarkable craftsman. The woodworking industry grew in Windsor in the 1600s, and John Moore is considered its patriarch.

On January 11, 1651, John Moore was ordained a Deacon of the First Church of Windsor. He was known as Deacon John Moore for the rest of his life, and played a major role in local and colonial goverment.
