Samuel and Cicely Chapin came to the New World sometime in 1638 or early 1639,
settled in Roxbury, and moved to Springfield, Massachusetts Bay Colony, a few years later.
Samuel Chapin was baptized in Paignton, Devon, England, on October 8, 1598[2],
and was the fifth child and third son of John Chapin and Philipa Easton.
Cicely Penny was baptized in Paignton, Devon, England, on February 21, 1601/02[2],
and was the daughter of Henry Penny and Jane Dabinotti.
Samuel and Cicely had ten children, eight born in England. Samuel, John, and Honor
all died young in England. When they traveled to Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1638,
they brought five children with them, ranging in age from less than a year to fourteen.
Samuel became Deacon Chapin in Springfield and one of the most influential and powerful people
in this colonial community. We aew descended from his oldest daughter, Catherine, who married Nataniel
