Richard Church came to Massachusetts Bay Colony on the Winthrop Fleet. By 1632 he was in Plymouth, where he quicly established himself as a skilled carpenter. Sometime before 1636, Richard Church married Elizabeth Warren, daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Warren. Richard Warren arrived in 1620 on the Mayflower, and died in 1628, when his daughter Elizabeth, was still quite young. Both Richard Church and Elizabeth Warren were born in England. They are our immigrant ancestors.

Joseph Church was born in Plymouth in 1638, the second child and the oldest son of Richard and Elizabeth Church of Plymouth Colony. He was the older brother of Caleb Church, who is also our ancestor. Joseph's father was a skilled carpenter who taught his trade to his sons. There is evidence that Joseph worked as a carpenter during his adulthood. Joseph met his future wife, Mary Tucker, in Hingham. She was the daughter of John and Mary Tucker. Joseph played a major role in the founding of Little Compton. Joseph and Mary Church were the great-great-grandparents of Phoebe Bailey, who married Isaac Hathaway Junior. They are our direct ancestors.

Caleb Church was the sixth child of Richard and Elizabeth Church, born about 1646 in Duxbury, Plymouth Colony. Caleb spent his younger years around his older brothers, who were undoubtedly learning something about carpentry and building things from their father. Around 1650 Richard and Elizabeth moved their growing family to Hingham. Caleb met, and later married, Joanna Sprague, the first of three wives, in Hingham. Joanna was the daughter of William Sprague, our immigrant Sprague ancestor.
