William Chase came to the New World on the Winthrop Fleet in 1630 with his wife Mary and his son William Junior, and initially settled in Roxbury. In 1638 they became the first settlers of Old Yarmouth, which is located on the lower part of Cape Cod. William was a housewright, and he and Mary are our immigrant Chase ancestors.

Benjamin Chase was born in 1639 in Yarmouth, Massachusetts, which was part of Plymouth Colony. His parents, William Chase and Mary Trowley, had moved there from Roxbury a year earlier. Sometime before 1673, Benjamin moved to Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where he married Philipa Sherman, daughter of Philip Sherman. They are the parents of Philipa Chase, who married Jacob Hathaway.
