Nicholas Hathaway was born in 1595 in Kingscote, Gloucestershire, England, and immigrated to Braintree, Massachusetts, during or before February of 1638. We don't know exactly when Nicholas came to America, but he was in Braintree on February 24, 1639. The town granted him 36 acres of land at Monaticott, Mount Wollystone, which is now part of Braintree. His name appears in the town's historical records regarding land transactions, indicating he became an extensive landowner. Nicholas's descendants played a prominent role in Taunton for many years.
